How To Get Started In R/C Racing

If you have the desire to race and you know nothing about r/c cars you'll have to start by looking around the web at the sites and choose what kind of car you want to race. There are basically 3 more popular types of cars minis, sedans and F-1s.  Most people start out with a Tamiya sedan, mini or F-1. Tamiya kits are good quality and very inexpensive. You can also go with the HPI Sport which is another entry level car. Both cars offer lots of hop-up options. Hop-ups are add on parts that makes your car work smother or more efficiently or just plain faster. You can also start out with a more sophisticated cars but not many people suggest it. You will also need electronics. There are entry level speed controls available from Duratrax and Novak. The only problem with entry level electronics is that you can only use stock motors.  More advanced speed controls can handle more power but they are also more expensive. Tamiya cars come with a mechanical speed control  Now for a radio. I would suggest a futaba sport or magnum junior or a JR python. There are also very complicated radio systems like the futaba 3pj or the airtronics m8. Servos come with radios. They control the steering on the car. A pistol grip radio is the more commonly used radio stick grip radios aren't used that much at the track but every once in a while you see one. You now need something to power your new car I would either use the kit motor from a tamiya car or a plain stock motor. When you are starting out just learn how to use your car and then gain the speed. Batteries will be a major choice. For novice all you need is a 1500mah battery but if you think ahead for the future you can get 1700mah or 2000mah batteries. The bigger the mah of the battery the longer it will last in a race. You can get a special package at Leading Edge Hobbies or your local hobby shop called the track pack. It comes with a radio, battery, speed control and servo. All you need then is a car and motor. Now that you are all set with the car go out  there join the club and race.
